What is a pain clinic?
Algology, or science of pain management is a new speciality of medicine. It deals all kinds of pain either alone by algologists (pain specialists) or in association with other specialists. A multi-disciplinary pain clinic is a pain clinic where different specialists dedicated to the pain management are attached as a team. A pain management center has added facilities of research and training. There has been tremendous development in this branch over the past decade. New research has enabled us to understand the cause of pain and newer options for treatment has come out.

It is the first multidisciplinary Pain Clinic at Kolkata with the facilities of diagnosis, treatment, research and training. This pain clinic provides extensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for management of most kinds of pain. This clinic has a multi-disciplined team dedicated to the management of pain based on comprehensive approach to each patient’s individual needs. The patients may suffer from different kinds of acute or chronic pain conditions like HEADACHE, FACIAL PAIN, NECK PAIN, SHOULDER PAIN, LOW BACK PAIN, KNEE PAIN, JOINT PAIN etc. due to variety of diseases like migraine, trigeminal neuralgia, arthritis, slipped disc, spondylosis, cancer etc. In this pain clinic we use a blend of different pain management modalities starting from yoga, meditation, pranayam to radio-frequency ablation, spinal cord stimulator, Percutaneous Discectomy, vertebroplasty & Ozone Nucleolysis.

Dr. Gautam Das is a leading Pain Specialist of the country practicing most of the 'Interventional Pain Management' procedures. He did MD in Anaesthesiology from Calcutta University & stood first. Later he was trained in interventional pain management from AIIMS, New Delhi; Holyname Hospital, New Jersey; & Lakewood Clinic, Austin. He visited many pain clinics in India & abroad. He passed FIPP examination in 2007. He worked jointly with IIT, Kanpur to develop "Pain Assessment Monitor". He is first in India to perform Percutaneous Discectomy with disc dekompressor. He is also the pioneer of Ozone Discectomy/ Ozone Nucleolysis in Eastern India and one of the few in the country. Presently he is the secretary of Indian Society for Study of Pain (WB).
